Gnomologium Vaticanum (GV) is a Byzantine collection of sayings and anecdotes of ancient Greek philosophers and other celebrities. It shows affinities with Diogenes Laertius’ Vitae Philosophorum with roots reaching back to the Hellenistic period. It is the fullest representative of a family of related gnomologia.
This project explores the most adequate editorial forms for editing this mass of related texts. A digital edition of GV and related questions is being prepared in collaboration with the project Sharing Ancient Wisdoms based in London, Uppsala and Vienna. For further information, visit: SAWS. A complete printed edition of the GV family of gnomologia is planned.
